Blair Regrets – But Not Enough!

“The Guardian” is reporting about Tony Blair’s regrets about his inability to change public services and that Lord Falconer is quoted as saying:

“–. Would be that we didn't realise quick enough that if you genuinely wanted to change the way the public service delivered for the public you needed to embark upon a process of cultural change."

Hmmm!  Hasn’t Mr Blair been in office for 10 years?  How much time does it take?  It sure didn’t take him long to commit our soldiers to a war that didn’t directly affect us!  Not to mention the financial resources he found to keep them there.  Imagine being able to put all of that money into the public health and education system of this country, how much better off would we be as a nation?

I think that Tony Blair rather than mention a few regrets in his resignation should be citing his inability to do the things that this country needed done, and his hope that the government who follows him is more effectual about what we need at home rather than overseas.  I appreciate the need for the world to contribute to disaster funds, because this is a humanity issue, and it’s also one that could affect any country so we all have to contribute towards helping those countries who are stricken by unforeseen disaster – but to march past the social casualties of our over-burdened public services, and into a costly war zone, was irresponsible.  Consequently the biggest regret that Mr Blair ought to have is in ignoring the nation he was entrusted to make a priority in favour of international politics following a nation who also cares little about the social welfare plight of its people!
