Soldier are no longer Heros

I was little mifted when I read the news article about Bush getting annoyed at returning soldiers living conditions. I have now lost my love affair with the armed forces. When I was a kid I viewed wars as romantic and done for good causes, I conjured up visions of world war II, where the british fort off the invading German forces, in what seem like to be a hopeless battle, while a whole country supported and went without and banded together to protect themselves.

Now I know better.

Google defines a  hero as 'a man distinguished by exceptional courage and nobility and strength' this is now the exception and is far from the rule. People who enter the army are looking at a very well paid career, which is not particular dangeous (we hear about people dying in wars, but generally they are far and few between at least on the invading forces sides, our enermies die in their thousands, yet we report a single death as headline news.) if you want a dangous job try working as a emergency room nurse dealing with drunks and drug additcts on a regualr bais without a gun, 30 of your mates and long distance surface to air missels to back you up.

I see little nobility in the armed forces any more, In my mind nobility is only really possible if you know what you are fighting for. It is more and more apparent that our troops haven't a clue, free a country from the grasp of a evil ditator that we were perviously funding, searching of non-exisiting WOMD and all we come home with is tons and tons of cheap oil, and guess what there countries more fucked up than it was before.

Strength, I can't disagree with that. Hell yep we're strong, no one stands a chance agaisn't us so hell 1 out of 3 isn't bad, but to be honest strength without nobility and courage we are just bullies. Well trained, well equiped, well paid bullies.

I don't see why our soliders should get better beds than anyone else. They want a good bed they should do what they do best and go and liberate one from someone else.

Finally we seem to be progressing with the site.
