Greenday

I just listened to Green Day's American Idiot CD and me found myself wondering what I always muse over when I hear Green Day. I didn't know about with Green Day when they were an authentic punk band, however I bought Dookie when it when on sale. I liked this Album, which was their very first with a major music company. However, from the starting, i've always wondered is this band very punk? Being how I haven't ever heard their music from per the release of Dookie, I cannot seriously say I already know how they orginally sounded. Still, I have heard many of their songs and I don't feel it's really Punk Music. The singing is nasally, the lyrics are filled with anger, and there is simply instrumentation. All of these are characteristics of punk. If these 3 rules are all that need to be met to be though of as punk, then Eminem should be a punk superstar.

In my mind, Green Day isn't punk rock. The 'American Idiot' CD specifically is far from punk rock. I enjoy the CD, it's that I have accumulated and me take it out from time to time to hear it.

If your on mainstream radio, your not punk rock!

Yet, thats not my idea of punk rock. When I think of punk rock, I imagine Radiators From Space, Ultravox, Magazine, and the Zips. This way, I get to enjoy the super fast beats and can not believe he went there! Lyrics I have come to expect from Punk Music. Really now, if it is played on mainstream radio, is it extremely punk rock? It's time to face the truth, Green Day's music may be fun, however it's mainstream, not punk.
