Optimisation Difficult
Here is a common SEO question how do you calulate the required work in getting top listing on a certain search term. I have read a lot of people working out the difficulty of getting listed well by the total number of sites that a search returned. I have seen hundreds of times people going, I’m in the 46th position out of 20,000 WebPages, aren’t I good. Some time that’s an achievement, but if the search term is ‘Small pottery shop, with a blue door in Shropshire’ you haven’t really achieved anything. The amounts of records returned in google’s results are only the pages that contain some of those words, if there are 10,000 badly optimised pages, then with just a little work you should be able to get a good ranking.
Unfortunately figuring out difficulty of a search term is not that easy. The first thing to do is realise that you are not competing with the 10,000 other pages that the search returns, you are only really competing with the first 10 those are the ones you will have to beat to get good traffic.
So the question now becomes how well are the first 10 pages optimised?
So how do you figure out how well a page is optimised? Again not a simple question, however if you know what you are looking for you can get a good idea. One of the most influential factors in determining the ranking order is the inbound links, but don’t use google to get them, yahoo is a lot more reliable or even msn. You can find out the number by typing links:www.yoursite.com into either search engine. This is a good indication of how many links you going to have to build. This is probable the best indication of the competition.
Another Excellent indication of competition is the amount of searches that are performed on the term a month. Usually the amount of people who are searching on phrases will determine how much money can be made out of it and therefore the amount of competition and hence difficult to get ranking. Now for some killer stuff I stumbled across. I have been working with the guy who built the website for coffee point, it's fairly cool, have a look. A friend of mine, Kate has been rebuilding court house clinics website. have a looks see what you think.
Bye-Bye
